Objectives and Operations
The International Federation of Spirits Producers (IFSP) was created by the spirits industry in 1993 to combat the counterfeiting of spirits internationally.
Its membership comprises nine of the world’s leading spirit groups, representing some of the best-known drinks brands available to consumers today.
The Federation’s objectives are:
- To protect consumers and brand-owners from the dangers of counterfeit products.
- To promote awareness of the economic harm caused by counterfeiting.
- To support trade partners and law-enforcement agencies in the fight against the counterfeiters.
- To encourage dialogue between all stakeholders so that the risks from counterfeit products are minimised.
Today, the IFSP is active in over 30 countries around the world, working with national law-enforcement agencies to detect and prevent the production and distribution of counterfeit spirits.
Education forms an important part of the IFSP’s work. The Federation holds hundreds of training seminars every year, helping local officials and trade partners recognise illegitimate merchandise and alerting them to the risks it poses.
The IFSP provides a single point of contact for a significant part of the global spirits industry. This enables it to play an increasingly substantial role with local and national administrations in the fight against counterfeit spirits.
