Advice When Buying IFSP Member Brand Spirits in Russia

1. Always buy from a reputable, established source.  If buying from a shop, ensure you have a check from EGAIS in addition to a regular cash check.   Do not buy online, from someone selling on the street, from a vehicle or from a ‘friend of a friend’.

2. Look at the price.  If you are getting the product for much lower than the usual retail price (taking into account the usual promotional special offers), there may be something wrong with it.  If the price looks too good to be true, it probably is.

3. Check the packaging.  Our Member’s authentic product is sold only in consumer packaging of the highest of standards.  If the label isn’t quite straight, the printing is not clear or there are spelling mistakes, the product may not be genuine.  Never buy product in odd packaging like plastic canisters, etc.

4. Pay attention to the liquid.  Genuine spirit should not contain debris, have an unusual smell or be an odd colour. This includes in bars and restaurants.

If  anyone who has recently consumed spirit is displaying any of the symptoms of methanol poisoning, including but not limited to vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, blurred vision, breathing difficulties or low blood pressure, they should seek immediate medical assistance.
